Thomas Philip Le Fanu (1858-1945) was born on 9 December 1958, and educated at Haileybury College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He joined the Public Record Office, Ireland, in 1881, and the Chief Secretary's Office in 1884. He was Commissioner of Public Works, Ireland, 1913-1926. Le Fanu was Vice-President of the Royal Irish Academy, 1918-1920 and 1925-1930, and President of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, 1933-1936. He died on 21 October 1945.
